My 8K on Samsung and LG Smart Televisions
No download from us and nothing to plug in. You install a player from your television’s own shop and hand it your details, which is the tidiest setup of the lot when it works.
Before you start
- A Samsung or LG television made in the last few years, on your Wi-Fi
- Your My 8K details to hand
- Patience with the on-screen keyboard
Install a player from the TV shop
Open the app store built into your television and search for an IPTV player. On Samsung and LG the usual choices are the ones with a device key setup. Install it and open it. Nothing needs to be sideloaded, so none of the unknown sources business applies here.
Write down the key it shows you
The first screen usually shows a device key or MAC address specific to your television. Note it down carefully. Some players ask you to enter that key on their own website to attach your playlist, which sounds strange but is simply how the app is built.
Add your My 8K details
Where the player asks for a playlist, choose the Xtream or M3U option and enter what is on your account page. If it only accepts a single link, use the M3U link rather than the server, username and password separately.
Give it a minute to think
The first load on a television is slower than on a stick, because the processor inside a telly is doing several things at once. Wait for the channel list to finish before deciding it has not worked.
Worth knowing
- Older Samsung and LG sets sometimes cannot install any modern player at all. If yours will not, a cheap stick in the spare HDMI socket costs less than an evening of trying.
- Turn off the television’s motion smoothing before watching sport. It is nothing to do with your subscription and it is why football can look like a video game.
- If the picture is fine but the sound cuts out, try changing the audio output setting on the television from automatic to stereo.
